day 10 : 9 July 2003

  view to selden
the view towards Selden Pass from Marie Lakes

  marie lake
looking back from a higher point at Marie Lake, the source of Bear Creek and its lush canyon

  selden pass
it was most puzzling that even at 10880 ft, Selden Pass was swamped with millions of mosquitoes

  creek crossing
in terms of mosquito counts, the southern side of Seldon Pass was such a contrast... very few of these irritating miniature draculas despite the wet terrain here

  sallie keyes lakes
the twin Sallie Keyes Lakes in which the JMT passes in between of... here is another of the many very scenic places along our journey

  to muir trail ranch
a short detour from the JMT to Muir Trail Ranch to pick up our final resupply package... for here it's all the way to Whitney Portal without resupply

  goodies
treasure in the wilderness... stuffing as much of our fresh supplies into our already very overloaded packs

  bliss
after a hearty lunch, Mike takes the opportunity for fifty winks in the shade

  the saga continues
very soon we were off on the longest leg of our journey, also reputed to be the most scenic section of the whole trail

  piute creek bridge
Steve who did not need to resupply at Muir Trail Ranch, went ahead looking for a suitable campsite for the night and we rendezvoused at the Piute Creek Bridge; here at the crossing, Pavilion Dome dominates the landscape

  entering the kingdom
crossing Piute Creek brings us from Sierra National Forest into Kings Canyon National Park, entering our fourth National Park / Forest since starting our journey

  king of chilling-out
and the highest honour for the art of chilling-out on the JMT goes to...
