Nematolosa erebi
  the largest fish in Central Australia growing up to 30 cm, can often be seen in the waterholes as silvery flashes when big schools swim through the shallows feeding on algae and rotting food plants; hundreds of the younger fish are sometimes found dead in a natural event called the 'winter die off'
