'Turn, or change, the body'. A work of great style and impeccable proportions.

Towering

Built in 961 by King Rajendravarman II as his state temple, it was the second temple built after the capital was returned to Angkor after a period of political upheaval when the capital was at Koh Ker. It is a three-level mountain temple with 17 brick towers on rows of sandstone and laterite. All bricks are held together with a vegetable glue.

Sunset Watching

It best to visit the temple in the evening as the warm western light casts a beautiful golden glow on the structures. Being a high temple mountain, it is also a popular place for sunset watchers.

On Top of the World

The uppermost level have towers with beautifully carved false doors, and from here is an excellent vista of the surrounding countryside.

Standing Proud

The three tiered platform can be approached by a stairway on all four sides. Pedestals flanking the stairways are adorned with seated lions.

Sunset View

The stone lions of Pre Rup have been watching over the temple for eons of sunsets and sunrises.
