M a r t i n - P o i n t
Standing on the viewing platform that overlooks Martin Point is one of the best vantages for admiring the power of the sea, and also an ideal spot to take a broader perspective of the island's very impenetrable craggy coastline. The sea is usually very rough on this section of the coast, but at certain times of the year, it may be perfectly calm.
Expansive views of the typical rugged coastline of Christmas Island can be well appreciated, with unobscured views of the western coastline towards Egeria Point and North-West .
On calmer days, one should be able to see submerged reef formations ringed by iridescent turquoise water and, in the shallows, the shadowy shapes of fishes on the prowl.
Martin Point is also a great birdwatching location, as a number of Brown Boobies nest in the cliffs on either side of the viewing platform.
