Around the island is a number of well constructed forest trails and boardwalks to let visitors enjoy the charming rainforest of Christmas Island and all its wonders within. The short walk to Margaret Knoll is one of such, that is easily accessible and well maintained. |

Despite the century or more of human exploitation and mining, much of the natural ecosystems and rainforests of Christmas Island remains intact. Besides a number of endemic flora and fauna species, the rainforest of Christmas Island is also uniquely special because of the masses of land crabs that live in the forest. |

Red Crabs in the Forest | ||||
The terrestrial crabs that feed upon the fallen plant material and other organic matter on the ground thus rendering the forest floor rather devoid of litter. The burrowing action of the crabs tilts the soil rendering the forest floor soft and well aerated. |
