| Jeffrey pines are hardy conifers, typically growing at the higher elevations. It is not uncommon to see mature trees growing out of hard granite slabs as the one on the summit of Sentinel Dome. Made famous by Ansel Adams, the summit Jeffrey pine on Sentinel's summit finally succumbed to vandalism in 1984. | ||||
