Kathmandu 1317 m - Lukla 2850 m
day 3 : 20 october 2003

  the waiting game
totally dependent on mother nature's wrath or kindness, delays and cancellations to flights to and from Lukla is the norm rather than exception

  touchdown
high on the side of a mountain, the Lukla airstrip is built on a slant so that there is an elevation difference of about 60 metres between the ends of the runway; this slope slows down the landing aircraft and helps them stop before they run into the mountain side that rises from the end of the 450 metres runway.

  first meal outdoors
the first taste of the days to come... an al fresco lunch served out on the lawn next to the airstrip

  exploring lukla
stranded in Lukla as part of our luggage has yet to arrive, the team decided to explore this single street town

  the window
beneath the window of this guesthouse stands the tools of a mountain porter... a basket, a headstrap, and a resting stick

  dzopkyo
the workhorse of the mountains, the dzopkyo is the hardy but tame crossbreed between a yak and a cow
