Water is life, and water has special significance and importance to the people of Cambodia and throughout Indochina. Homes in the outskirts of town and in the rural areas often have ponds. These ponds serve many needs... from agriculture to washing.

Lotus

The lotus plant is a cash crop. Almost every part of the plant can be sold for cash... the flowers for prayers in the temple, the leaves for packing and covering food, the pods for food. Just beyond the city limit of Phnom Penh, it is not uncommon to see many ponds and waterways all covered with lotus.
