Unless you are a local, it is most unlikely that you would know about the existence of this very private place. Merrial is one of the smallest beaches on Christmas Island, and it is actually an 'occasional' beach. It's presence is tide dependent, meaning that when the tide is high, Merrial Beach dissappears. Located just north of Hugh's Dale, Merrial Beach is also very hard to find as the path to it is unmarked and often overgrown.

After a short trek through the forest that requires a little climbing over fallen tree trunks, ducking under dense vegetation, and scrambling down rocks, the view suddenly opens to a stunning fissure between two cliffs. Climbing down onto the beach opens even more views as a perfect white sand beach surrounded by high rocky overhangs on either side greets the visitor. Wwith small fishes trapped in rock pools, and shy crabs skittering away, this is surely a very special private place.
