For many visitors, the north-east coastline is one of the most easily accessed parts of the island that enables one to take in broad oceanic vistas and an appreciation of the craggy geology of the island. Travels along the sealed road connecting the settled areas with the Christmas Island Resort, which hugs this coastline of the island, takes you pass a number of locations that may be of interest to visitors. Just beyond the Settlement is the Chinese cemetery, where Christmas Island Frigatebirds (Fregata adrewsi) could be seen nesting on the trees lining the inland cliff there. Not far beyond the road curves south and passes a number of limestone outcrops, and passes another natural spectacle of the island; the Grotto. |

The road then passes the Golf Course, which is the only course in the world that will allow a player a free drop is a crab is seen plundering their ball. A few kilometres beyond is the ocean-facing Taoist Temple known as Mar Chor Nui Nui, dedicated to the Sea Goddess. The road ends at the Christmas Island Resort, a large complex originally operating as a casino but fell victim to the Asian Economic Recession in 1998. It was re-opened in 2007 as a hotel resort and restaurant. |

A more spectacular way of appreciating the north-eastern coastline is from the lookout just beyond the old miner's cemetery on Phosphate Hill. Perched high on top of the inland cliff with the Golf Course immediately just below, the unobstructed views from here is just breathtaking. |
